De productie en installatie van windturbines en zonnepanelen kunnen nadelige gevolgen hebben voor mens, milieu en biodiversiteit. De ketens zijn complex en daardoor niet altijd even goed inzichtelijk, waardoor het veelal de voorkeur verdient om eventuele problemen collectief aan te pakken. Doel van het IMVO Convenant Hernieuwbare Energie is om door samenwerking in de gehele keten risico’s in kaart te brengen, aan te pakken en, beter nog, te vermijden. De convenantpartners delen praktijkervaringen met elkaar en starten collectieve werk groepen om verbeteringen door te voeren.

Internationale richtlijnen

Het commitment van TotalEnergies aan IMVO-doelstellingen is niet nieuw. Als wereldwijd multi-energiebedrijf geloven we sterk in het naleven van de principes van internationaal maatschappelijk verantwoord ondernemen en het bevorderen van duurzaamheid in al onze activiteiten. Zo zetten we ons onder meer in voor de strijd tegen klimaatverandering, bevordering van de sociale dialoog, behoud van biodiversiteit en transparantie in bedrijfsvoering. De ‘United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights’ en de ‘OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises’, die ook de basis vormen voor het IMVO Convenant Hernieuwbare Energie, zijn hierbij leidend. Deelname aan het IMVO Convenant Hernieuwbare Energie biedt de mogelijkheid om ons hierin meer toe te spitsen op onze activiteiten in Nederland en om aan te sluiten bij nationale inspanningen om maatschappelijk verantwoord ondernemen in de hele waardeketen te stimuleren.

Brancheverenigingen voor waterstof- en energieopslagsector

Naast de ondertekening van het IMVO Convenant Hernieuwbare Energie is TotalEnergies in Nederland recent ook lid geworden van de brancheverenigingen voor de waterstofsector, NLHydrogen, en de energieopslagsector, Energy Storage NL. Ook deze sectoren vormen een cruciaal onderdeel van de Nederlandse energietransitie en onze multi-energiestrategie. TotalEnergies ziet ernaar uit om bij te dragen aan de kennisdeling binnen beide brancheverenigingen en aan de doorontwikkeling van deze sectoren.

Netherlands: TotalEnergies joins IRBC Agreement for the Renewable Energy Sector and industry associations for hydrogen and energy storage

The Hague, November 1, 2023 – TotalEnergies Renewables Netherlands signed the International Responsible Business Conduct Agreement for the Renewable Energy Sector. Within this agreement, solar and wind energy companies, industry associations, the Dutch government, knowledge institutes, NGOs and trade unions are jointly committed to making the international production and installation chains of wind turbines and solar panels more sustainable.

Collaboration

The production and installation of wind turbines and solar panels can have adverse consequences for people, the environment and biodiversity. The chains are complex and therefore not always easy to understand, which is why it is often preferable to tackle any problems collectively. The aim of this IRBC Agreement is to identify, tackle and, even better, avoid risks through collaboration throughout the entire chain. The covenant partners share practical experiences with each other and start collective working groups to implement improvements.

International guidelines

TotalEnergies' commitment to IRBC objectives is not new. As a global multi-energy company, we strongly believe in adhering to the principles of international corporate responsibility and promoting sustainability in all our activities. For example, we are committed to the fight against climate change, promoting social dialogue, preserving biodiversity and transparency in business operations. The 'United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights' and the 'OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises', which also form the basis for the IRBC Renewable Energy Agreement, are guiding principles in this regard. Participation in the IRBC Agreement on Renewable Energy offers the opportunity to focus more on our activities in the Netherlands and to join national efforts to stimulate corporate social responsibility throughout the value chain.

Industry associations for hydrogen and energy storage 

In addition to signing the IRBC Agreement for the Renewable Energy Sector, TotalEnergies in the Netherlands recently also became a member of the trade associations for the hydrogen sector, NLHydrogen, and the energy storage sector, Energy Storage NL. These sectors also form a crucial part of the Dutch energy transition and our multi-energy strategy. TotalEnergies looks forward to contributing to knowledge sharing within both trade associations and to the further development of these sectors.
